This poem relates to a painting based on a story about learning how to let our children follow their own paths, but while I was painting it, I noticed the painting reflected instead my true feeling towards letting my son go to a new school where he would sleep there for the entire week in the beginning of his middle school years. Still oblivious how I was portraying that moment, I asked my older son for help with the title, in which he answered: "Mean Mother Tosses Her Baby". It was then that I noticed what I had painted and wrote a poem based on it. See the painting related to this poem here: https://priscilasoares.com/mean-mother-tosses-her-baby
